My name is Steve Pappas. I coached basketball in the Chicago area for over thirty years and just recently learned I am to be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame on April 29, 2006. I also have non-Hodgkins lymphoma and have been treated since August 2004 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. I received an autologous stem cell transplant with my own stem cells in August 2005. Unfortunately, my lymphoma has resurfaced since the transplant and thus there is a high likelihood that I’ll need a donor transplant in the near future. The best match may be a donor from the Greek-American community, but other donations are being sought from any ethnicity as they too may be that one special match! We have started the process searching for our donor match and financial support is available for those willing to be tested or to donate blood. We are asking you to get tested so we can build our Greek-American registry first and foremost and in so doing we may find a match for me. I am grateful that you might consider this as an opportunity to help me as well as the others like me who are in need of your help. We can win this one through our brotherhood and sisterhood.
Teammates always, Steve Pappas
