Team Pappas, a group formed to save lives in
memory of Steve Pappas, English teacher and
basketball coach, received a one million dollar
grant from the National Bone Marrow Donor
Program.
Through a grant awarded to TEAM PAPPAS, we
are fortunate again to offer Free Bone Marrow
Testing during the week of May 5th. This is a
wonderful opportunity, as the test usually costs
approximately $70 per person. As you may
remember from last year, the test is much easier
now - just a swab test vs. the old blood test.
Anyone 18 years and older may be tested.
Team Pappas will host drives all around the
Chicagoland Area to grow the registry. The
following locations and times represent our
scheduled drives:
2008 Blood Drives
April 18th – Today In senior homerooms,
seniors will be given information on testing and
encouraged to bring that information home to
their families. Seniors can bring back a signed
permission form so that they may participate in
the Bone Marrow Testing. They will also be
allowed to sign up for the number of packets
they would like to take home to family and
friends who are 18 and older. Packets will be
distributed in Senior Homerooms on May 6th.
May 6th – The testing packets will be
distributed in Senior Homerooms. If you would
like to receive a packet for yourself or to
bring home to a friend or family member, please
email Cathie Pappas at cpappas@dist113.org by
Tuesday, April 22nd. The packets will be placed
in your mailbox on May 6th and must be returned
on May 7th to Cathie Pappas.

COMMUNITY MEMBERS will take place at the Coach
Steve Pappas Memorial Faculty/Student Basketball

May 8th - I am Coach Brian Lukens and on
staff in the Deerfield High Basketball Program.
I would like to invite each member, of TEAM
PAPPAS, to the Coach Steve Pappas Memorial
Basketball Game, taking place at DHS, the date
is May 8th, and the time is 3:30 – 4:30 pm. It
is our hope to acknowledge the history of TEAM
PAPPAS and its members. This year at DHS, the
Student Council and Boy’s Basketball program has
taken leadership, in the 2008 Coach Steve
Pappas’ National Bone Marrow Crusade. Please
join us in celebrating the legacy of Coach
Pappas and the mission of Team Pappas to educate
and grow the National Bone Marrow Registry.
Free testing will take place at the B Ball
Game between 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
I am confident that Coach Pappas would be
proud to have all of us joined together to
celebrate, to give thanksgiving and to play
ball! Thanks, Coach Lukens DHS.
